Dinghy

4.2.10

So we finally broke down and bought an outboard motor for our dinghy. We payed more than what we should have for a used motor from some skeezeball in Marathon and then he dropped us back at the marina, where we lugged it on our boat and prayed to God that it would work!
After a few tries and us referring to the internet every 5minutes because neither of us have any CLUE how to work an outboard - Brad finally managed to get it started. But it smoked - a lot; and it was loud - VERY LOUD. All the neighbors were giving us death looks for bringing it into their quiet and quaint marina. With the motor sounding like it might explode any second, I thoughtfully declined Brad's invitation to join him on a quick jaunt around the marina. He put it in forward, it nearly threw him off the dinghy, and then stalled out....
He restarted it and finally was able to putz around the marina for a bit. It did start to quiet down once it had been running for awhile. We had a few people laughing at our misfortune and ignorance, but we have gotten used to that where sailing is concerned. :)
We have been missing out! Living on a sailboat without a dinghy is like living without a car! That thing gets us everywhere that the mothership cannot go. It is amazing! We are so stoked to be able to anchor somewhere and then dinghy into dry land! Stay tuned for more dinghy adventures...
